I could do it. (언제든지 과거에 할 수 있었던 능력)나는 수영할 수 있었다.
(어릴적 집근처에 강이 있어서 언제든 수영할 수 있었다)
I was able to do it. (실제로 했었던 것)나는 수영할 수 있었다.
(어제 수영장이 개장해서 수영할 수 있었다.)
(실제로 한 내용을 말할때는 could가 아닌 be able to 사용)
